Mamangam (2019)
Mamangam is about the dejected families living in the Valluvanadu community of Malabar region. Having been deceived by the Zamorins, their forefathers lose everything they had and now, the younger generation has an unquenchable thirst for revenge. They will not stop till the chaaverukal (suicide squads) from the Chandroth family acquire two things: reclaim the community’s land and overthrow the Zamorin tyrant, Samudra. So, in order to satiate their collective craving for redemption, the Chandroth family puts their able warriors – Chandroth Panikkar (Unni Mukundan) and Chandroth Chanthunni (Master Achuthan) – to work and regain their lost sense of pride and self-esteem. On one hand, lies the plight of these mothers who are on the verge of sacrificing their sons for the greater good. On another, there is the community sentiment and a strong desire to free themselves from the clutches of a ruthless tyrant. The inner conflict, heightened with visually-exciting sequences, highlights the valour and fearlessness of the 17th and 18th century warriors.
